Obituary of Steve Burton

It is with deep sadness that the family of Stephen Paul Burton announces his passing on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Kingston, ON on March 20, 1953, Steve was a son of the late Donald Irwin and Audrey Alberta (Storms) Burton.

Steve was larger than life and lived life to the fullest. He spent most of his adult years in the military – a life he truly loved. It was in the military that he got to travel and see the world, sparking a lifelong passion for adventure. Even after retirement, he continued to embrace new adventures and new friendships alongside the love of his life, Ali. However, time spent in the woods at home was equally endeared to him, so long as his Ali and his beloved “fur friends”, Sweetie and Roho, were by his side. Steve will always be remembered as being fierce as a lion when it came to protecting those he loved, but otherwise gentle as a lamb in the every days of life.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Alison of Coles Island, NB; his daughter, Sarah Burton Hobbs (Kevin) of Ottawa, ON; his stepchildren: Jesse Coers of Trenton, ON, and Felicia Coers of Brighton, ON; his grandchildren: Stephanie, Griffin, Kaydance, Zoey, and Marcella; his siblings: Jon Burton (Brenda) of Sydney River, NS and Karen Burton of Kingston, ON; his parents-in-law, Marien and Anne Vreugdenhil; and his beloved dogs, Sweetie and Roho. Steve is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Steve was predeceased by his parents.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). In keeping with Steve’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Donations in memory of Steve may be made to The Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
