Obituary of Nic Mahoney
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Nicholas Anthony Mahoney of Grand Manan, formerly of Sussex announce his unexpected passing on September 28, 2025 at the age of 22.
Nic was cherished deeply by his parents Anthony Mahoney (Chandal), Pamela Mahoney (Greg) and his special sister Jaedyn. He shared a special bond with his grandparents, Leo and Donna Mahoney, Mary McMackin, Patricia MacDonald and Bev and Florence MacDonald. They all equally adored him.
Nic will be forever remembered by his Uncle Chris (Care-Lee) and his aunts Jillian MacDonald (Sean), Michelle Krause (Christian), Lisa McMurray (Randall) and Beth Emerson (Steven). Also mourned by his closest cousins: Josh, Maggie, Luke, Daniel, Laine, Rebecca, Rachael and Caitlin.
Nicholas was a graduate of Sussex High and of Industrial Mechanics at NBCC in Saint John.
A true outdoorsman, Nic found his greatest joy in four wheeling, hunting, fishing and mud running with his old Ford truck (his pride and joy). Whether on the open road or on a rugged trail, that’s where he felt at home.
Nic truly found his niche when he moved to Grand Manan and decided to try his hand at rock weeding, lobster fishing and scallop fishing. Life on the ocean became a source of peace, purpose and pride. Out on the boat, surrounded by salt, air and open water, he was in his element. He loved being a tour guide for visiting family, proudly showing off the island, he had come to love, chasing sunsets and sharing his hidden spots. Nic quickly became a member of his large fishing family and became special friends with Ben Johnson and his fiancée Meag who quickly took him under their wing. He also recently acquired a little Australian mini, Tilly, who quickly became his constant companion.
Nicholas never missed a chance to be surrounded by the people he loved. The first to show up for a for a family gathering or a party with friends he brought energy, laughter and warmth with him wherever he went. In his younger years, he had a passion for dirt biking and Jiu-jitsu his competitive spirit shining through especially when it came to playing cards and games. Whether it was cribbage with his Gump, checkers with Nana Pat, a quick poker game or a friendly bet he played to win.
But more than anything he loved his family fiercely and whole heartily. He shared an unbreakable bond with his little sister and shadow Jaedyn. She brought out his biggest smiles and most tender moments .They had a truly special connection. Nicholas is survived by parents, sister, grandparents, uncles, aunts and many cousins and friends whose lives he has touched and will carry his memory forever in their hearts.
