Mr. David Peter McLaughlin of Sussex, passed away at Saint John Regional Hospital on October 18, 2002 at the age of 83. Born in rural Southfield, on April 29, 1919, he was the son of the late Bernard and Margaret Ann (Curran) McLaughlin. Dave is survived by his wife Mary Veronica (Vera) nee-Kelly, McLaughlin, his daughter Margaret of Sussex, two sons Gerard and his wife Monique of Dieppe, Anthony and his wife Helen of Bloomfield, his sister Clara Stephen and her husband John of Quispamsis, four grandchildren Alicia, Marc, Felix, Paskalle, a great granddaughter Jena, as well as several nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by two infant sons David and John, by four sisters Mary Curran, and Kathleen, Rose and Helen McLaughlin, seven brothers Felix, Henry, Warren, Maurice, Hazen, Joseph and Anthony. Dave was raised among a farming surrounding that he thoroughly enjoyed. He served overseas during WWII in the Canadian Army and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church. He was an employee of the CNR and still found time to assist his brothers and sisters on the family farm. In fact, his holidays were annually taken during the busiest time of the year on the farm, haying season. Upon his retirement Dave gained great joy tending to his sheep, goats and other animals on the farm. He was also an avid outdoorsman who encouraged the participation of his family in all outdoor activities. He was a very caring husband and father and was always very supportive of all their choices in life. Dave thoroughly enjoyed companionship with family and the many friends he made throughout his eighty-three years. He enjoyed telling stories but gained even greater delight listening to the stories of others. David Peter McLaughlin Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Monday 2-4, 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 10:00 am, with Fr. Peter Bagley officiating. Interment at Wards Creek Cemetery.
