Obituary of Roy Alward
Mr. Roy Ernest Alward, of the Kiwanis Nursing Home, formerly of Lower Millstream, passed away at his residence on May 26, 2002. Born in Havelock, NB on March 10, 1913, he was the son of the late Ernest and Alphia (Thorne) Alward. Roy was survived by his beloved wife Lorna (Hutchins-Dickie) Alward, step-daughters, Valerie Lloyd of California; Sharon and husband Peter Kraft of Denfield, Ontario, step-son, Kem and wife Stella Dickie of Moncton; 3 sisters, Gladys Holbeche of Saint John; Rilla Lisson of Sussex; Myra Alward of Lower Millstream; Margaret Sprague of Lower Millstream, sister-in-law, Marion Alward, 3 step-grandchildren, Kevin, Shawn, Darryl, 3 great grandchildren, Olivia, Meagan, Peter, several nieces and nephews. Special friends, Maureen and Peter MacLean of Fredericton and their children, Ryne and Julie. Roy was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Donald and by 4 sisters, Helen Rivers, Annie Ward, Muriel Bailey and Nina Ravn. He was a mechanic and radiator repairman in Lower Millstream. He served in the Canadian Army overseas during WWII. He was a member of Lower Millstream United Baptist Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20 and the Millstream Volunteer Fire Department. Roy was a very private man. He was quiet, accepting and non-judgmental. Most would consider him to have a great sense of humor and a good listener. He will be greatly missed. Roy Ernest Alward Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday 2-4, 7-9. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 will hold a tribute on Tuesday evening at 6:45. The Funeral Service will be held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating. The musical selections
