Obituary of Allen Baird
ALLEN PAUL BAIRD of Sussex, NB, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre, on September 13, 2001. Born in Halifax, NS on October 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Samuel and Catherine (Harding-Smith) Baird. He was the husband of the late Donna Irene Penny Baird, who passed away in 1997. He is survived by 3 daughters Sandra Somerville and her husband David of Lake George, NB, Janet Currie and her husband Paul of Victoria, BC, Carol Fadden and her husband Murray of Dryden, Ont., 2 sons Robert Baird and Valerie Castleton of Niagra Falls, Ont., Ronnie and his wife Lisa of Picadilly, NB, his sister Kay Currie of Halifax, NS his brother Albert of Pentiton, BC, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, several nieces and nephews, predeceased by 2 grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters. Al was proud of his military career and his uniform. He served overseas with the Black Watch in the Canadian Army. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Windsor and Oromocto Branches. He was known for such witty expressions as 'If you didn't touch it, it would be there for 100 years.' He enjoyed all types of music from Hank Snow and Elvis Presley to AC/DC. He took the same great pride in his attire as he did in with his vehicles always meticulous in every detail. He was particularly fond of driving and would go any distance to take the kids for a burger as long as he could drive fast. One of Al's greatest pleasures was hockey, whether it was his kids on the ice or Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Team. He was a big kid at heart and like most kids, Christmas was his favorite time of the year. Al's house was like Santa's Village and decorated with great care. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation was held. Funeral service was held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on September 16, 2001 with Pastor Dennis Munn officiating. The musical selections
