Obituary of Emma Cox
Emma Cox was born in Coles Island on August 15, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Phillips) Moss and was the wife of the late Arthur Cox.
Gram lived in Coles Island and Young's Cove area her entire life. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and involved with the local ACW. She was very talented. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, quilting and creating wool hooked rugs. We each have quilts, mittens and socks made especially for us by Gram. We could take an idea for an outfit that we had seen in a magazine or on television to her and within a few hours she could recreate it for us. We remember Gram as the best grandmother a child could have. We don't ever remember her saying "I'm too busy" or "I don't have time right now". We would go to her house anytime of the day and know she would have time for whatever our latest idea was. Many fond memories are of Sundays with Gramp and Gram. We would just have to mention doll furniture or a playhouse and Gramp would be out cutting the lumber and Gram would be going through her scraps to find the right piece of material for the latest project. Gram was a serious person but Gramp or one of us could easily tease her or coax a smile or laugh.
We rarely remember Gram mad, but when she used a stern tone and our full names in a sentence we would quickly head for home. It usually meant we had made some kind of mess and after an hour or so we would head back over to her house and whatever mess we had gotten into was cleaned up and we where ready to start again.
In later years she would often bake our favorite cookies or special dishes when she knew that we would be visiting. She was known as "Gram" to everyone. We will miss Gram but take comfort in the fact that she lived a very full life and left us with many happy memories.
