Obituary of Vivian Floyd

Vivian Floyd was born in Florenceville on August 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Georgia (Strange) Taylor and was the wife of the late Grant Floyd. After graduating from the Florenceville Superior School, she attended the Provincial Normal School and received her First Class Superior license. Later she attended Mount Allison University from which she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in History and a Minor in English. She also earned a grammar School license and continued post graduate studies at the University of New Brunswick in History. She taught in Simonds, Lakeville, East Florenceville and the Woodstock High School in Carleton County and was Principal of the Canterbury Superior School in York County. Her last teaching was in the Sussex High School where she also supervised the library. From this position she retired in 1972. She was active in the New Brunswick Teachers Association. After retirement she was a member of the Kings County Retired Teacher's Association. Vivian held offices in the Women's Institute at the local district, Provincial and National levels. She was honored with a life membership in the New Brunswick Women's Institute. She has been a 4-H Club Leader, a C.G.I.T. leader, taught Sunday School, President of the Maple Leaf U.C.W. Unit and President of St. Paul's United Church Women's. She was honored with a life membership in the United Church Women. She has held several offices in the L.O.B.A. and is a past Mistress of Harmony L.O.B.A. # 176. She was a founding member and the first secretary of the Kings County Multiple Sclerosis Society. In 1944 she married Grant Floyd and for many years she was a partner with her husband in the Sussex View Farm business. Mrs. Vivian Strange Floyd of Roachville, passed away at her residence on July 13, 1999 at the age of 86. Vivian will be remembered by her son; Donald and his wife Susan of Montreal, Quebec; two brothers; Wilbur A. Taylor of Royal Oak, Mischigan, USA, Clarence F. Taylor of Woodstock, NB; two sisters, Muriel P. Jacobson of Dartmouth, NS, Christine T. Barnes of Amherst, NS; three grandchildren; Geoffrey Floyd, Andrew Floyd and Laura Floyd Vivian was predeceased by her brother; Harry Taylor of Florenceville, NB. The family will receive relatives and friends at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A service celebrating Vivian's life will be held from St. Paul's United Church on Friday, July 16, 1999 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
