Obituary of Philip Arthur Turner

Philip Arthur Turner was born on March 18, 1945 in Cupar, Saskatchewan; he was the son of the late Frank and Alice (smith) Turner. He loved working on the family farm that he grew up on, feeling the earth in his hands and under his feet. Growing things and bringing beauty into the world was something he carried through his entire life. He loved hockey, and especially his time as a Defenseman for the Melville Millionaires and Mount Royal Cougars, as well as coaching in Climax, Saskatchewan. He passed his love of the sport to his daughter, even though they could never agree on which team to support. He spent time in Edmonton and completed a B.A. in Rec Admin at the University of Alberta. He put this to good use in Drayton Valley and Lloydminster, Alberta. As a family, we moved to Squamish in 1981. Many locals will remember him as their Insurance Salesman or when they use some of the things, he was proudest as Mayor to implement, particularly the transit system and the new pool complex. As President of the Chamber of Commerce, he was also very pleased to be a part of the team that created the annual Trade Fair and we both spent many hours manning his SunLife booth there. He lived for many years in Calgary and was a proud Westjetter. He spent the last 6 years of his life in Sussex, New Brunswick and enjoyed being a part of the community and being able to contribute in his way. I love you, Dad. I could not have asked for a better one. I hope you finally feel free to dance and ride your bicycle anywhere you like. He is survived by his loving daughter, Alison Turner; his brothers and sisters: Joan Turner, Barbara Thompson, Robert Turner, Alan Turner, Iona Glabus and Heather Turner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also remembered fondly by Joan Ford (Faller) and Sandra Lammens. Mr. Philip Arthur Turner passed away on July 15, 2020 in Saint John, New Brunswick at the age of 75. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176). Due to COVID-19 the funeral service will be held privately.
