Obituary of Walter Richard Newton

The death of Walter Richard Newton of Sussex occurred at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on February 12, 2005. Walter was born in Saint John, NB the only child of James and Celia Emma (Pickett) Newton. Walter is survived by his wife Leona (McLaughlin) Newton and her three sons and three daughters; Sterling (Sandra) Mercer of Petawawa, ON, Roy (Mary) Mercer of Sussex, Frank Mercer of Edmonton, Frances (Winsor) Cunningham of Belleisle Creek, Nancy (Eldon) Mabee of Keswick, ON and Sarah (Larry) Nesbitt of Scarborough, ON, six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Walter was a member of Trinity Anglican Church where he was a sidesman and a very active member in the Brotherhood. He loved his cat. He liked to collect license plates and miniature Volkswagon cars. Walter enjoyed hooking rugs, he had several in his own home and several in other people's homes that were given as gifts. At Walter's request there will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 16, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Anglican Church, Sussex, with Reverend David Barrett officiating. Interment will be at Riverbank Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Sussex Health Centre Dialysis Unit or the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
