Obituary of Walter Ickabert Anderson Parlee
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Walter Ickabert Anderson Parlee announces his passing on February 18, 2023, at the age of 90. Walter was born on August 20th, 1932, in Mt. Middleton. He was the son of the late Fredrick and Geneva (Anderson) Parlee.
Walter loved to reminisce of his time working in the woods, at Sussex Refrigeration, Baxter’s, and at the DOT. He always said that working at the DOT was his favorite job, he loved running the grader and he had the best boss, Herman Hawthorne. In his retirement he loved wood working and playing cards in his garage. He was very proud of his camp in Donegal and spent a lot of time there with family and friends. He loved Sunday suppers where there were a lot of family and deserts around the table.
Walter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline (Mercer) Parlee of Waterford, two sons Lonnie (Patsy) Parlee of Waterford, David (Cheryl) Parlee of Waterford, and two daughters Dale (Doug) Pearson of Smiths Creek, and Wonda (Mark) Jones of Roachville; ten grandchildren: Jeremy (Erin) Parlee, Jason Parlee, Kate (Travis) Stevens, Justin Parlee, Lisa (Dan) White, Nick (Chelsea Friars) Pearson, Erica (Jesse) Bell, Megan (Kyle Parlee) Pearson, Miranda (Hunter Gullison) Jones, and Mirissa Jones; eleven great-grandchildren: Jensen and Jayce Parlee, Ally and Kyle Williams, Nathan and Reece Stevens, Henry and Tilly White, Jack, Jemma, and Ericksen Bell. Walter is also survived by brother-in-law, Edgar Forsythe, and two sisters-in-law, Viola Parlee, and Adelia Mercer, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time best friend, Sydney Fanjoy.
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased his brother, Kenneth Parlee, and two sisters, Yvonne (Donnie) Buchanan, and Audrey Forsythe, as well as Mother and Father in-law, Eldon and Mary (McLong) Mercer; brothers-in-law, Maynard and Eric Mercer, and sister-in-law, Ruby Mercer.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at the Sussex Health Centre, and especially to Justin Kierstead for always taking the time to make Walter laugh (who Walter said was the best Doctor on staff). A special thanks to his niece Jodie Holmes for all the special attention, as well as Lisa Lisson who always made sure he and his wife were well looked after.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Dr., Sussex, from where visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, from 4 to 7pm. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held from the Wallace Community Chapel on Thursday, February 23 at 11:00am.
Donations may be made in memory of Walter to the St. John’s United Church, Sussex Corner, the Creightonville Cemetery or to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
