My condolences to all members of the Donovan family on the passing of Dr. Larry Donovan. I remember Dr. Donovan from my early years in Sussex, N.B., as he worked with my father, the late Dr. Stuart Magwood, DVM, in the district office. Many times, Dr. Donovan and my dad would go on country calls and I would tag along in the early to mid-1950s. Dr. Donovan and his wife were lifelong friends of my parents and the last time I saw them together was in Hanover, Ontario, where they travelled to observe my parents' 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Your parents and mine are together again, sharing funny stories and remembering old times. Best to all of you.

My sincere condolence to the Donovan family. I just learned of Dr Donovan's passing.
I have nothing by great memories of Dr Donovan. I spent many days at the Donovan house.
Also, had the opportunity to ride along with Patrick and Dr Donovan many many times, after school,
schools holidays...what a great experience...some calls Patrick and I would help carry equipment etc.
Nothing but great memories !!!
A few years back, I had the chance to sit down and talk with Larry, I also introduced Dr Donovan to my
daughter in law (Dr. Davidson) also a vet, well they had a great chat about the industry and Dr Donovan's
many accolades.
Many great memories with Larry and his family, thank you for sharing him.
SO nice to see the veterinary tradition carry on for two more generations.

My sincere condolences to the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Dr Larry Donovan. I only became aware of Dr Donovan's death yesterday with the release of the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association newsletter. I met all of you (children) during the summer of 1974 when I was a senior veterinary student working with your dad for four months.
Your dad had a tremendous influence on my life and career more than any other veterinarian. The summer of 1974 working with him was the best summer position I had ever had, bar none. Your father allowed me to deal with all types of farm calls, easy and difficult, serving the best Sussex clients and the more ordinary farmers. Such a show of confidence in me allowed me to develop a sense of confidence in serving farmers that I carried forward throughout my career.
Whenever a case did not work out satisfactorily, your dad never criticized my work but would instead simply ask me, "Michael, what do you think went awry." I very much appreciated his mentoring techniques.
Your dad was always in a good mood and had a great sense of humour, which made working in Sussex a pleasurable experience. He was the eternal optimist.
I enjoyed that summer position and working with your dad so much that I decided I wanted to return to the Provincial Veterinary Service, hopefully working in Sussex full-time after graduation. When that did not work out in 1975 because the province had no vacancies, your dad encouraged me to get a position in the Maritimes so I would be close by when a vacancy arose. He acted as a reference for me with his classmate Dr Bud Ings in Montague, where I started my full-time career. He also helped me get my eventual position in Fredericton, where I spent the rest of my career.
He was a great veterinarian and teacher, with countless veterinary students benefitting from his expertise and mentoring skills. He will be missed but fondly remembered by all those students that came into contact with him.

To my family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing Gramps:
As everyone who met Gramps will know, he was a very special person. Being able to see Nan and Gramps was always worth the long drive out East from Ontario.
I saw Gramps last after I graduated from law school at Dalhousie University in Halifax in May 2022 and was doing a road trip with my sister, Tori, back to Ontario. Gramps and Aunt Marg met us for a lunch at a Big Stop on the drive back. It was so special to see Gramps in good spirits. At lunch the family resemblance was more evident than ever as we proceeded to order the same meal (a hot turkey sandwich with white meat, white bread, fries, gravy on the side and a piece of chocolate cake). We shared a laugh over the fact we picked the same thing and talked about memories from times together. He always liked to remind me of how I was shy as a kid and would always hide behind my dad, Paul Donovan's, leg and how I would come running to him when he would come home from work.
Thank you to all those that assisted with keeping him comfortable in his final days.
Gramps - you will be dearly missed.
All my love,
Kasia

Pat, Kathleen & the entire family,
Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father and grandpa. It was such a pleasure to know Dr. Donovan. I had the experience of running in to him at the grocery store, when he offered to reach a carton of cream for me and we had such a pleasant conversation. He spoke with fondness of vetting in New Canaan to many of my family who dairy farmed there. His eyes lit up and the smile made him look so youthful, especially as he recalled names quicker than I could.
Thinking of you all especially this week, take care,

My thoughts are with Dr. Donovan’s family at this time of his passing.
When I was a little girl, he was our vet and would let me come in with him to observe surgeries.
When I visited him and Mrs Donovan in later years, he would still call me “one of his kids” because he remembered looking after my animals. He loved to share so many stories and we’d have a great chuckle. I so enjoyed seeing him, even just recently.
Such a kind and interesting gentleman.

He was such an inspiration and is part of the reason why I became a veterinarian after hearing all of dads farm stories from his youth. I feel so fortunate he made the trip to Guelph to visit the OVC following my acceptance. I treasure these images greatly.
Gramps - May there be endless pastures of cattle needing tending to and par 3’s where you are now.
He will be deeply missed
