Obituary of Leon McFarlane

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Leon Allen McFarlane announce his passing at the Sussex Health Centre on June 13, 2023 at the age of 87.

Born on April 8, 1936 in Markhamville, NB he was the son of the late Robert Stanley and Sarah Viola (Allen) McFarlane.

Leon's mother passed away when he was six years old and his father passed away two years later. His brother Stewart took over the responsibility of both mother and father. Leon appreciated that this was done and that he was able to stay with his family. Leon worked as a carpenter to be able to take care of his family. Family is everything to Leon and his love was always apparent. Everything he did in his life was for his family.

Leon will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 65 years, Reta (Fanjoy); his daughters: Cindy McFarlane and her husband Stephen of Waterford and Sherry McFarlane (Jack Almon) of Lower Millstream; his son, Tony and his wife Cindy of Waterford; his daughter-in-law, Cathy McFarlane of Waterford; his brother, Raymond and his wife Jane of Sussex; his brothers-in-law: Sydney Fanjoy and Delbert Fanjoy; his sister-in-law, Nina Fanjoy; his grandchildren: Melanie McFarlane (Blake Lewis), Rodney McFarlane, Jody McFarlane, Cody McFarlane (Haley McMillan), Adam McFarlane (Raela), Nicholas Lisson (Julianna Diotte), Nathan Lisson (Erica Long), Jeff O'Donnell, Colin McFarlane (Riley Blackwood) and Samantha McFarlane; his Great Grandchildren: Abigail, Piper, Cash, Serenity, Harmony, Brayden, Edward, Isaac, Victoria, Alexandra, Georgia, Owen, Alexus, Noah and Matthew; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Along with his parents, Leon is predeceased by his son, Stanley McFarlane; his brothers: Milford, Stewart (Dot) and John and by his sisters: Greta Adair (Cecil), Vivian Snyder (Murray), Ruby McFarlane (Nelson), Marguerite Keys (Murray), Helen MacLeod (Willard) and Lois Esmond (Dennis).

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). At Leon’s request no visitation will be held. A service celebrating Leon’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 1:00pm, followed by a time of reception. The interment will take place in St. John’s the Evangelist Cemetery, Waterford, NB at 3:15pm.
