Obituary of Gladys Yeomans
GLADYS MARY YEOMANS 1927 - 2023
Two weeks after celebrating her 96th birthday we lost Gladys "Bunty" Yeomans (nee Dillon), expert weaver, accomplished pianist, sailor, wife, mother and "grandma".
Born in Cooksville, Ontario she overcame blindness in adolescence after two years of rest and went on to study with renowned Canadian piano teacher, Reg Godden, and at the Denver School of Music.
While marriage and family may have sidelined performance ambitions, she continued to enjoy her 1884 Steinway concert grand piano and turned her artistry to weaving, expertly spinning her own wool and crafting unique fabrics and blankets on her 60-inch loom.
In the words of her physicist grandson, Charlie Katrycz, "We are, in a very real sense, interwoven with each other.
In quantum physics it's called 'entanglement.' And just like in a tightly woven blanket, pulling one thread pulls on all threads."
Predeceased by beloved husband, Lloyd and daughter, Edie.
Survived by daughter, Molly (Mike); grandchildren, John, Sonya, Charlie, Dillon; son-in-law, Avo Koplimae; and extended family.
We all mourn her loss and the end of an era.
Many thanks to devoted caregivers, support workers, Dr. Peter Kopplin and staff at Christie Gardens. A private memorial has taken place.
Donations may be made to the Edie M. Yeomans Bursary in Fine Arts at McMaster University.
