Obituary of Carl Dell
Loved Forever ............Carl Dell...........Dec 27, 1950- August 12, 2023,
God said, "It's time to come home son"....and Carl said "okay".
On Saturday, August 12, 2023, I gave the love of my life back to our Father in heaven.
Carlyle Trueman Dell came into this world bum first on December 27, 1950, the son of Bill and Bernice Dell of Petitcodiac and he made his mark on this world from that point on.
We met in January 1969, and he finally asked me out in September of that same year. For the next 5 years we lit up the streets of Petitcodiac every weekend with so many great friends and fast cars...his was always the fastest.
Out of school, working with his grandfather he learned the electrical trade, but mechanics and body work was his passion.
He built his first "garage on the hill" on his grandfather's property and we spent hours and days there, always with a yard full of friends.
On June 1, 1974, we became Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dell and moved to Corn Hill where he built our house, and of course, a garage. Within a year he became the proud Dad to April Jean and then 3 years later a proud Dad to Angel Jane and then 7 years later the proudest of Dads to Colby James. His family was complete.
From 1974 to 1980 he was the mechanic / body-man for H.A. Fawcett and Son in Petitcodiac, working alongside his lifelong friend Gordie Mann.
Then in 1980 he opened his own "Com Hill Auto Repair" in Corn Hill and for the next 6 years kept most of the vehicles and farm equipment of the community running and shining.
Following a run in with our farm tractor in 1986 he could no longer run the garage and had to close but, as he had married a country girl, they had built a small barn just for "a cow or two" and over the next 25 years built the farm up to a 75+ head herd of beef cattle.
He was proud and happy to be able to raise his children on the farm, teaching all three how to work and appreciate farm life. He loved the weekly Co-Op auction sales in Sussex, and meeting and talking with other farmers, especially our "cousin" friend forever, Kevin Coates, as well as the weekly, or sometimes 2-3 times a week, card games and coffee with Reg and Ellie.
He loved the home that he had built for his family, and we all knew we were so loved.
In his retirement he enjoyed his weekly coffee trips with Harold and spending quality time with his "brother" Nat, doing something in the garage or just doing nothing together.
We will remember him with smiles because that is what he wants. We will talk about him with laughter because there are so many stories to tell.
Most importantly, we will praise God for him and know that he IS with Jesus now because he took that walk of faith when he was a young man, under the guidance of our dear, dear friends and pastors, Jim French, and Sonny Osborne.
He goes on ahead of the "love of my life", his wife, Debbie and his loved children: April Steeves (Kent), Angel Boyd (Shaun) and Colby (Chrissy), and his treasured grandchildren: Graydon, Preston, Chloe and Nolan.
Gone before him, his mother and father, grandparents Trueman and Edna Wood and Telford and Sarah Dell; his brothers in law, Paul Edson and Danny Dunfield and nephews: baby Steeves and Nicky Steeves.
To meet up there later will be his sisters: Sandra Richardson (Jack), Sharon Dell (Lawson); brother-in-law, Art Edson (Kathy); sisters-in-law: Barb Steeves (Brian), Mary Ellen Dunfield and Alice Edson; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
God will hold us, God will carry us, and God will give us strength.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176).
