Obituary of Milton Herbert Friars
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Milton Herbert Friars announce his passing at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on January 23, 2024, at the age of 75.
Born on June 25,1948, in Sussex, NB; he was the second son of the late Herbert and Marjorie (Keirstead) Friars.
Milton worked for NB Power for 34.5 years. He was a proud graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and was Grand Champion Livestock Showman at the College Royal Winter Fair during his time there. Milton was very involved in the Maritime and New Brunswick Simmental Associations. He served as Director of the Maritime Simmental Association and President of the New Brunswick Simmental Association. Milton was an Honorary Member of the Sussex Home Builders in recognition of being a founding member. He was a 4H leader for many years. Milton was a member of the Atlantic Community Church since 1996 and served as a member of the Board of Management and on two building committees.
Milton operated a farm in Apohaqui for many years and enjoyed having a large garden. He loved horses and owned several over the years. He enjoyed fishing, ATVing and spending time in the woods. Milton and his wife, Judy, were able to have several enjoyable trips together after retirement including to Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and exploring the local area.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Judy (Crawford) Friars. He is also survived by his children: Janet (Carl) Seeley of Hammondvale, Jennifer Friars of Saint John, and Jacqueline (Joel) Bean of Sussex; his siblings: Frank Friars of Sussex, Pauline (David) Rouse of Sussex, and Miles (Nancy) Friars of Truro, NS; his grandchildren: Jackson, Braydon, Alice, John, Emily and Nora; and his brothers-in-law: Michael (Tina) Crawford and Edwin (Avis) Crawford, as well as several nieces and nephews. Milton was predeceased by Judy’s parents, Lillian and Harold Crawford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A service celebrating Milton’s life will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11 am at the Atlantic Community Church, 78 Route 880, Apohaqui, NB.
