Obituary of Phyllis Rose Jones

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Phyllis Rose Jones announce her passing on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex, NB. Born in Petitcodiac, NB, on March 17, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Irena (Colpitts) McPhee.

Phyllis was a devoted wife and enjoyed her role as homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking and with her husband, Bob, annually tended to a large and envious vegetable garden. Phyllis enjoyed her flower gardens as well and particularly her tulips. She was an avid singer; whether at home, at family gatherings, at her church or in the community. She was a particularly popular entertainer at many Sussex Town and Country Jamborees over the years as a yodeller, and in her last years loved to yodel for staff and residents at the Kiwanis Nursing home.

Phyllis was a devoted Sunday School teacher for the younger children at the Penobsquis Baptist Church for many decades. She also loved to add her voice to the church`s cantatas at Christmas and Easter. Family was a dear subject for Phyllis, and she always enjoyed cooking and preparations for family gatherings at her home or cottage, and planning for and participating in the annual McPhee family reunion. Over the years Phyllis and Bob were avid motorcyclists, members of a local Sussex motorcycle club, and enjoyed touring the backroads of New Brunswick together. The pair were also enthusiastic campers, usually with other friends, and enjoyed outings to Fundy, P.E.I. (and of course, deep sea fishing), Nova Scotia, Maine and occasionally New Hampshire. Phyllis enthusiastically manned the barbecue. She was a wonderful example of a humble Christian who served her God by serving others.

Both the Jones and McPhee families wish to extend to the staff and administration of the Kiwanis Nursing Home their most deep and heartfelt appreciation for the loving and professional first-rate care that Phyllis received while a resident there these past few years. Kiwanis was a wonderful home for her. We hope Mom`s presence and yodeling brought a ray of sunshine to their world as well.

Phyllis is survived her children: Michael Jones of Salt Springs, NB, Tim Jones (Lori Keirstead) of Wards Creek, NB, Jamie Jones of Sussex Corner, NB, and Brian Jones (Cheryl) of Ottawa, ON; her grandchildren: Natasha, Naomi, Nathanael, Kyra, Riah, Hunter, Levi, Brandon, Hudson, Elliott, Ayden, Pyper,  and Abigail; her great-grandchildren: James, Aliyah, Isaac, Zachary, Ezekiel, Ellie Rose, Ezra, Ethan, Aria, William, and Nova; her brother, Randall McPhee (Madeline); her sisters, Elva Greer, and Mildred Folkins (Bill); and her sister-in-law, Mary McPhee. Phyllis is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert; her daughter, Jennifer; and her siblings: Howe, Emery, Donald, Clement, Eugene, and Barbara Sears.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 7, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will take place from the Penobsquis Baptist Church on Thursday, February 8, at 2:00pm.

Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Penobsquis Baptist Church Sunday School or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
