Obituary of Hattie Evelyn Lockett
It is with great sadness that the family of Hattie Evelyn Lockett announce her passing at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on Monday, February 12, 2024. Hattie was born at home in Midland, NB on June 12, 1922. She was a daughter of the late Earl Rexford Manning (March 8, 1889-May 18, 1970) and Helen Bernice (Walker) Manning (January 24, 1901-April 18, 1999).
Hattie graduated from Saint John High with honours in 1939 and went on to Vocational school for a year. She then worked for Imperial Life Insurance Company on King Street, Saint John. Hattie married her husband, Albert, in September 1946 and they proceeded to live in many places across Canada with the Canadian Military. Hattie was an expert at knitting and sewing and did her crossword puzzles in ink. She loved to go shopping, to the beach, and she loved to bake.
Hattie is survived by her children: Nancy Burdon of Saint John, NB, Susan Grant of Sussex, NB, and John Lockett (Wendy) of Saint John, NB; her grandchildren: Duane Burdon (Cheyann) of St. Stephen, Jennifer Burdon (Krista) of Fort McMurray, AB, Shelley Daigle (Jean Pierre) of Saint John, Christina Murray of Saint John, Sean Grant of Sussex, Albert Lockett of Montreal, PQ, and Terry Lockett of Fredericton; her great-grandchildren: Rebecca Oullette, Troy Burdon, Daniel Burdon, Antonia Burdon, Madilynn Daigle, Callie Murray, Noah Grant, and Kenzie Grant; and her great great-granddaughter, Elena Burdon. Hattie is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Hattie was predeceased by her husband, Albert Edward Lockett (July 23, 1922-October 3, 1982); her sister, Muriel Howard (December 8, 1926-May 13, 2010) and by her brothers-in-law, George S. Lockett (1926 – 2014), Richard John Lockett (1924 -1977) and Ronald Howard (1923 - 2010).
