Karen and family,
Our deepest sympathy upon the loss of your precious Daniel.
He truly was one in a million. I had the priviledge of teacher with Daniel at Coles Island from 1980-83 and then again 1985-86.
He was a wonderful mentor to me and his spirit of faith shone brightly daily.
I did see him on occasion in church in Sussex when visiting with my sister and family. He was always so very friendly and engaging.
My husband and I were deeply shocked to hear just today that he had passed.
He will definitely live on in all the lives he touched over the years and I know for sure heaven was waiting for him with open arms.
He left an indelible mark on my life....the greatest mentor I ever had.
Rest in peace Daniel. God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Gail and Marcel Richard

I first met Dan and his guitar in 1973 on a plane ride from Fredericton to London. This serendipitous encounter led to a European road trip in a 1962 Morris Minor, culminating in several weeks on a Spanish beach and many a raucous night at the infamous Beachcomber. Dan's smile and good humour were infectious and have been a mainstay in my memories for the past 50 years. My deepest condolences Karen and family. RIP Dan.

Karen and family, sincere condolences on the death of Danny. He was a good friend and it was a privilege for me to know him and to play lead guitar in his church choir group he formed. His visit to my house and my Involvement in his choir we’re both a very great sense of comfort to me upon the death of my wife in 1999. I will always remember him.

The best years of my teaching career at Coles Island were shared with Dan, either as a fellow teacher or as principal. He cared deeply for the children in his care, spending time enriching their school experience in countless ways. He also cared deeply for his family, and I know his loss will be keenly felt.

An amazing god given soul-friend to all. Besides some his children and my children being friends, I will never forget Danny leading our Catholic congregation in song on Sunday’s with his guitar. I know when he crossed-over he was handed a guitar to lead the heavenly choir.

Karen and family, I have been reading all the notes here on Dan’s obituary. They are all so thoughtful and words of appreciation for a life well served. The ones that really touch me are his former students and how his ways made such an impression on their lives. When you see them say “thank you Mr Duguay”, this certainly shows his integrity. Everyone that knew Dan appreciates his many talents and positivity. RIP MR DAN

Karen & Family,
I have so many memories of sitting in the Principal's office with Dan. The only one I ever felt comfortable in. As a young youth pastor in the community Dan welcomed me into his office, gave me the keys to the Coles Island School and entrusted me to utilize them to "serve the youth of the community". Many chats of faith and encouraging words were delivered to this young man in that chair in his office. A welcome extended into a friendship. There was a weekly Friday Night Youth Group, summer camps, community events, fire department training, fundraisers and benefit music nights because of Dan. Dan was about community. He believed the School needed to be the center of that community and serve it's needs. He served his LORD faithfully as a servant to the many communities he blessed with his gifts of music, leadership and quiet authority. He just lived his walk with vulnerable honesty and integrity. An example to us all. (Thank you Dan!)
May these days of grief be filled with hope in the days ahead. May you know peace. Thinking of you all.
Sincerely,
Scott

My condolences to the Duguay family and to the many people who loved him. Dan was the best teacher I ever had, and his love of learning, science, and music was infectious. I have so many fond memories of him. My mom was his secretary for many years and he was a huge part of her work family, and the few times I got in trouble and sent to his office he let me off lightly because he had just listened to my mom giving me heck while waiting in the office to see him. He shaped so many lives at Coles Island School, and he genuinely cared for his students and staff. I am sure he will fondly remembered by many.

Mr. Duguay was an incredible man and teacher. His patience and kindness were part of what I remember so well about him. He would greet us in the morning with a smile. If we were getting tired during a class, he would grab his guitar and jump up onto the desk to play a song and dance a jig. He gave me such a love of science. I drug his science equipment from his classroom to my house and back, and he loved hearing the stories about what happened when I tested a certain something. He took us to the city and to UNB for drama, sports, and swimming, getting us used to being on campus at a very young age. I can't say how much my childhood was affected by this amazing man. Thank you, Mr. Duguay. Your reach is far and deep.

Mr. Duguay was a ray of light every morning when he’d great all his students into the school. He took the time to know all his student on a personal level and would take us aside when he knew were facing different challenges in our lives.
Every Christmas I when I hear Feliz Navidad playing on the radio or in the malls it makes my face light up. It reminds me of how he would play his favourite Christmas song every year with his students on his guitar and sing along with us, with the biggest smile on his face and so much passion.
I also recall the reading nights he would host at Coles Island School. Mr. Duguay would always sing Sharon, Lois and Bram's Skinnamarink with his guitar and have us all sing along with him while we did the gestures. To this day I get excited whenever I see this book in stores, as I buy for all my expecting friends because of this fond memory this book holds for me.
After my grandfather pass away in 2007, I remember my face lighting up when I saw a bouquet of flowers from the Coles Island school. Little actions like that made lasting impression in my young life, and have not been forgotten.
Sending my condolences to his friends and family, he was such a great role model and leader in our lives growing up and has left and ever lasting impact in us all. He will be missed.

This man will be greatly missed, by many.
He was the best principal I ever had and I had many as we moved often, he saw in me what I didn’t as a shy kid that hated social events and such so he encouraged me to try new things and never give up, taught me to find my voice and use it, while always helping others.
Told me I could do anything if I put my mind to it , I keep studying and never stopped learning.
I promise I never have and never will sir, and I raise my boys just the same
You were the shining light though the hardest school years
I’ll never for get math competitions or demand club !
please accept my heart felt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Dear [Family of Dan Duguay],
I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Dan Duguay. He was not just a principal and teacher but also a guiding light during my time at Coles Island School. I still remember how warmly he welcomed me back in 1997, making the transition easier with his kindness and understanding. Though I often struggled to connect with other teachers, Mr. Duguay always stood out for his empathy and genuine care.
One of my fondest memories is of the time he worked with me after school, patiently helping me master multiplication. He always made sure that hard work didn't go unnoticed, and I will never forget the joy of sharing pizza after we accomplished what seemed impossible at the time. His encouragement and belief in me left a lasting impact that I carry with me to this day.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Mr. Duguay touched many lives with his generosity and dedication, and he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
With deepest sympathy,
Morgan
