Obituary of Anne Hourihan

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Anne Marie Hourihan, Age 81 of Sussex, NB announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, Oct 9, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Anne was the daughter of Denis and Kate (Fawcett) McShane.

Anne is predeceased by her husband of 50 years Robert, and her parents.  Anne is survived by her Children; Maureen Hourihan and Stephen Keys of Sussex, NB., Anthony and Kyla (Jonah) of Kingston, NB., Patrick and Andrea (Davis) of Norton, NB. Grandchildren; Samantha (Sean), Kaitlin, Emma, Siobhan and one Great Grandchild, Caroline.

Anne was a retired Nurse, RN, whose passion for patient care showed in the many places she worked over her career.  Known to many of her fellow St. Jospeh's nursing graduates and nursing colleagues as Amos.  Shortly after Anne & Bob's return to Sussex in the 1980's, Anne began working as part of the team with Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Stevenson, and Dr. Khedheri. Anne was an only child but quickly became a sister with her sister-in-laws, and they had regular dinners, dominos games and movie nights to catch up. Anne loved Summers at the cottage at Cassidy Lake, and a daily swim to the raft with the last one just a couple of weeks back. Most of the Friday night dinners out were in St. Martins during the summer, with great discussion on meal quality versus cost! The annual ski trips to Sunday River, and summer road trips always involved her family and the extended family, and many nieces and nephews and eventually all their kids.  She loved to get her family together for meals and social events and her place was always a great spot to get hodge podge in late summer!  And with her busy social schedule was always a great source of local news and gossip to those in attendance.

Anne was involved in many things including the St. Francis Xavier Catholic church and in the past few years was a passionate member of the graveyard committee and was quite successful at guilting her children to participate on big project days.  Retirement really brought out her creative side with Scrapbooking, and diamond painting which brought together new groups of friends.  Anne had a great passion for genealogy and has left a great volume of knowledge for both sides of the family.  She looked forward to her mornings at the pool , her Tuesday breakfasts and diamond painting and the Friday coffee group at Knocks Cafe.

Anne lived life and whether it was Europe as a young lady, or her post retirement crazy social schedule, she lived life fully right to the end!  Her last hours despite discomfort were spent discussing friends, family, and grandkids.  A life well lived!!

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. There will be a time of fellowship following in the church hall. The interment will take place in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Norton, NB.
