Obituary of Joy Buchanan

The family of Joy Lily Lynn Buchanan, staff, and residents of The Living Hope Special Care Home wish to announce her passing on October 24, 2024, at the age of 35. Joy was the daughter of the late Darlene Buchanan who passed away in 2023 and Roger Smith who passed away in 2011.

Joy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 10th, 1989, and moved to Sussex as young girl with mother and father. She was a busy little girl. She loved her Grammie Smith, and her Grammie loved her and was always helping her to get her any extra help she could.

Joy loved her cats, loved watching movies, and had more movies than Block Buster. She enjoyed playing video games and could read like there was no tomorrow in sight, she loved it. Joy’s time at the Living Hope Special Care Home had an impact on staff and residents. She will be missed there as that was her new home and her new friends. Joy recently had the opportunity to connect with a biological brother who resides in Airdrie, Alberta. Wilma at the home expressed how proud Joy was to read them the letter and show off the pictures she had received of her newfound brother and his family. Alexandria and Devin Lewis, along with their children, also expressed how Joy was interested in learning more about their family and would get to meet her in the new year. This was a bright light for Joy, Devin, Alexandria and their children Theo and Tucker Lewis.

She will live on in the hearts of her grandmother mother, Sylvia Buchanan; her aunt, Debbie Grimshire and her husband Don of Winnipeg; her aunts and uncles; Stephen Smith, Paul and Debbie Smith, Randy Smith, Joy and Donnie Brown, Veronica Smith, Georgette Smith and her great aunts: Sally Andrusko, Olly Wolk, Pat Buchanan, Gail Hencheroff and Pat Buchanan; and many cousins from the Smith and Grimshire family as well as the staff and residents of Living Hope Special Care Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). There will be no visitation or service. She will be laid to rest with her mother; father, grandparents and her aunt and uncle in Pioneer Cemetery, Penobsquis, NB.

Donations in memory of Joy may be made to a memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through www.wallacefuneralhome.com.
