Obituary of Doug Beaman
We are heartbroken to announce the death of Douglas Hilton Beaman on July 22, 2023 at the Sussex Health Centre. He died peacefully with family by his side after fighting a courageous battle with leukemia. Born in Parkindale, NB on June 15, 1943, Doug was the youngest son of the late Claude and Gertrude Beaman.
Best friend, life partner and beloved husband of Dawn Beaman, Doug and Dawn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May of this year and Doug’s 80th birthday in June. In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his nine children: Lori Beaman (Derek), Sue Beaman (Mark), Heidi Beaman Green (Julian), Scott Beaman (Sean), Holly Burnley (Tim), Becky Blackburn (Fitz), Matthew Beaman (Brook), Jonathan Beaman, Nicholas Beaman (Hazel).
He adored his grandchildren and one of his greatest joys was spending time with them: Lilly, Emily and Ryan Burnley; Katie and Charlie Blackburn; Haleigh Green; Gloria, Violet, Olivia, Alice, Natalie, Eli Beaman; and Evelyne Beaman.
Doug was deeply influenced by his upbringing in rural New Brunswick and especially his family’s maple sugar woods on the Beaman Road. He was a dedicated Industrial arts teacher for 34 years, the majority of which were spent in Sussex, where he delighted in sharing his considerable knowledge about woodworking and small engines. His wooden spoons, spatulas, cutting boards, stools, clocks, etc., especially those made with wood from Flint Hill will always be treasured.
Doug loved nothing more than to laugh and had a mischievous sense of humour. He was an avid fruit, vegetable and flower gardener and particularly loved his roses. Life’s pleasures for him included nature walks, bridge games, travel and camping. Doug was selfless, kind, generous and a devoted friend. Education and the love of people, nature, cheese and all things maple were important to him.
Predeceased by siblings Joan Carr (Vincent), Dale Beaman and Joyce (Howe) Colpitts and his parents in-law Nada and Joe Price. He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law Garson Price, Blaine Price (Bonny) and sister-in-law Veronica Price and step-mother-in-law Kay Price.
The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by the oncology team at the Saint John Regional Hospital, in particular Dr. A. Rivera and his nurse Karen, as well as the staff at the Sussex Health Centre.
His hugs will be missed by all.
If desired, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Oncology Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Roachville Cemetery. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
